Project:  Traffic signal actuation for the I-95 north and southbound access ramps at Stewart Avenue in Ridley Park, PA.

Project Objective:  To provide left turn presence detection for the Stewart Avenue I-95 access ramps.  Conventional traffic loops were prohibited to be installed in the overpass bridge deck.

Signal Service Solution:  Design a video detection system to capture and provide left turn presence detection data to the local traffic signal controller.  Provide cameras and detection zone programming.

Technologies Utilized:  Video detection cameras

Benefits Realized:  The video detection system provided an effective alternative to conventional traffic loops.  The traffic signal controller now processes real time vehicle presence detection data from the cameras for actuating the left turn signals.  This has resulted in improved traffic flow for the high volume of vehicles accessing I-95 from the Boeing manufacturing facility just down Stewart Ave.  Prior to this the signals were strictly time of day programmed.
