Project:  Traffic signal actuation and video surveillance at two high volume Boeing manufacturing plant entrances at Stewart Avenue and Rt. 291.

Project Objective:  To design one system to provide both traffic signal actuation and video surveillance at two key high volume plant entrance intersections.  The system must be capable of providing automatic vehicle presence detection for traffic controller actuation as well as high resolution video for traffic and security surveillance.  The system must be capable of wireless video signal transmission and digital video recording.

Signal Service Solution:  Signal Service designed a video detection system that provides both traffic signal actuation and video surveillance at two key plant entrance intersections.  Using video detection cameras, the system provides the local traffic signal controller with accurate vehicle presence detection as well as high resolution video.  The video is transmitted via a 5.8GHz wireless communications link to a remote security station for interconnection to the security network.  The video recording is accomplished on an advanced Philips DESA digital recorder allowing for high capacity video storage along with rapid even search and retrieval functionality.

Technologies Utilized:  Video detection cameras; WTI 5.8GHz video transmission system; Philips DESA 120GB digital video recorder.

Benefits Realized:  The traffic entering the plants at both intersections is now fully actuated reducing the time employees must wait for signal phase changes.  The video is utilized by the security department to monitor the plant entrances and adjacent parking lot providing additional plant security.
