Project:  Video Detection System monitoring all four approaches at the Rts. 100 and 113 intersection in Lionville, PA

Project Objective:  Provide accurate loop detection at a key high volume township intersection.  In addition to vehicle presence detection the system must be capable of providing traffic volume counts, speed detection and vehicle classification.  The system must have the ability to store and download all collected data.  The system must also be capable of providing high resolution video images of the intersection for monitoring level of service and incident verification at the township building.

Signal Service Solution:  Signal Service designed a complete video detection system for the intersection capable of providing all of the above data parameters.  Interconnecting the system with the existing traffic signal controllers provides for traffic signal actuation.  A video and data communications link is made via a fiber optic backbone to the Township building for collecting traffic detection data, interconnection to the traffic signal master controller, and monitoring the intersection traffic video.

Technologies Utilized:  2004 Machine Vision Processors (MVP) and video detection cameras; IFS multimode fiber modems; TS2 controller; closed loop software

Benefits Realized:  The Township has eliminated the need for maintaining and replacing conventional roadway loop detectors.  The remote monitoring and programming features of the system has also saved township field personnel significant time.  The remote video monitoring capabilities has proved valuable to township police personnel in real time video intersection surveillance.
